Adjusting to Kindergarten

Here you will find guidance on how to make your child’s adjustment to kindergarten smoother and what should definitely be done before starting kindergarten.

In the ELIIS, you can:

• report your child’s absence
• read notices and messages
• follow group activities and the calendar
• access documents and the menu
• receive feedback about your child’s activities

Introduce your child to the new situation:

• Talk to your child about kindergarten and the activities there
• Show your child the kindergarten and its surroundings
• Encourage play with other children

Practice routines:

• A consistent daily schedule
• Nap at the same time as in kindergarten (13.00–15.00 p.m)

Support child’s independence:

• Let the child act independently
• Notice and praise their progress

Teach your child hot to:

• eat with a spoon
• get dressed
• wash their hands
• use the toilet
• tidy up toys

Adjustment takes time – be patient and support your child emotionally..
