Speech Therapist and Play Therapist

The role of the speech therapist and play therapist, who serve as the kindergarten’s support specialists, is to identify children in need of additional support and ensure systematic assistance for them. The academic year begins in September with an assessment of children’s speech and cognitive development, and the results form the basis for planning developmental support activities.

The assessment results are documented in the child’s development records. Support specialists provide teachers with guidance on how to support and develop children who need additional assistance within the group setting.

The speech therapist and play therapist work closely with parents and teachers to ensure consistent support for the child both in the kindergarten and at home.

Developmental activities are carried out individually or in small groups based on a plan prepared at the beginning of the academic year and updated throughout the year. Activity schedules are coordinated with teachers and parents, and when necessary, exercises are provided for parents to continue at home. At the end of speech therapy or play therapy, the support specialists prepare a summary of the work completed and provide feedback to the parents.

Speech Therapist

Speech therapy focuses on different components of speech and language development:

Development of coherent speech.

Development of speech comprehension and vocabulary.

Pronunciation and intonation exercises.

Development of phonemic awareness and sound analysis skills.

Development of fine motoring skills.

Play Therapist

Play therapy is a practical form of therapy for children aged 3–12, where a safe play environment allows the child to express their thoughts and feelings.

Play therapy is a dynamic process between the child and the therapist, during which the child explores, at their own pace and in their own way, conscious or unconscious issues that have affected or are affecting their life.

The aim of play therapy is to help children cope with mental, emotional, psychological, or other challenging situations.

Through play, the play therapist helps the child work through emerging difficulties by creating a playful, therapeutic, and safe environment.
