If you notice changes in a child’s behaviour—such as withdrawal, anxiety, unusual behaviour, or self-harming actions—it is important to listen calmly and support the child.

If the child tries to talk about what has happened, listen to them, encourage them to speak in their own words, acknowledge their courage, and reassure them that they are not to blame.
